Weather

Cold, snowing. Obviously needed to refresh the slopes, but it made ski condition pretty unpleasant.

Conditions

Some slopes were groomed overnight, but the cold temperatures meant that the surface granules did not thaw. Gradually fesh snow built up and conditions improved throughout the day.

Overall

Although there was a sunrise, the weather forecast was for a winter storm and 6-8 inches of snow by the end of the day.

During breakfast, the first flakes of snow started to fall and by the time we starte to ski, the snow was beginning to build up.

Sue, still suffering from a heavy cold, decided to stay down at the Resort Level. Chris and I headed for the Summit, taking a few runs off King Con and Silverlode on the way. The wind got up and the snow got heavier. By mid morning, there was a good accumulation on all slopes.

We moved on to Pioneer and both caught skis and fell in the uneven surface below the fresh powder. Before returning to the Resort Center for lunch, we went down Jupiter Access and headed into the fresh powder in the trees and finished off with a run down Single Jack. The moguls were filling with soft snow, which I found made them easier, but Chris found difficult to cope with.

After lunch, we all took PayDay and started off down the run of the same name. Sue decided that her legs were not up to the complete run, so we cut over to Blanche.

It was now about 2pm. Chris and I headed back up the mountain. It was clear that Chris was getting tired, and he looked for the easier runs wherever possible. Meanwhile, I tried the moguls under King Consolidated lift, the face to the left of King Con, which has several inches of untracked fresh powder on top of bumps at the top and small shrubs lower down.

Finally, on the way down, I tried Mens SL for the first time. The fresh powder made the run much easier than on earlier days.
